Mrs Lelia Ryan has produced an extremely comprehensive work on the officers' waist belt clasps worn by the line infantry between 1855 and 1902. It is greatly enhanced by no less than 241 of her own splendid line drawings which illustrate every clasp described in the text. This is an area of research which has never been done before and about which little is known and even less recorded. It adds a substantial amount to our knowledge in this field, and throws some interesting light on the dress distinctions of the Regiments both before and after Cardwell.
