Present-day historians and classical scholars derive their notion of the Scythians primarily from the colorful and tolerant description given by Herodotus (Book IV), whose travels took him to the southern border of Scythia. There is also an account by one of the authors of the Hippocratic treatise, which gives the impression of being more factual.
